This "selfie" was taken a long time ago but it is a picture of a cockroach, Cockroaches are insects of the order Blattodea, sometimes called Blattaria, of which about 30 species out of 4,600 total are associated with human habitats. About four species are well known as pests. Cockroaches are ancient insects. They've remained almost unchanged for over 200 million years. Roaches run fast on legs adapted for speed, and with 5-segmented tarsi. Cockroaches can also accelerate and turn quickly. Most are nocturnal, and spend their days resting deep within tight-fitting cracks or crevices.
